I remember this strip when it originally came out. It’s one of my favorite cartoon strips of all time. Still a wonderful, wonderful strip after all these years! Love WWI flying ace Snoopy. Curse you, Red Baron! <3
Back in the 60s, when this strip originally came out, some friends gave our kids a Dachshund puppy. We named him Fritz Von Luchow, the Red Baron of Hanover. We lived in Hanover, New Mexico at the time. Our next door neighbors had a Beagle named Snoopy. Snoopy and Fritz were actually very great friends. Neither of them was interested in chasing rabbits – but they had a lot of fun, chasing lizards together. Luchows was a restaurant in New York which we had visited once. Guess it is no longer there.
@Linux0s: your comment and Snoopy’s expression in the last panel, remind me of a friend whose husband had a severe flashback to Vietnam last month. He went out of control—people were either his buddies in combat or the enemy. EMTs and police had to ‘escort’ him to the nearest ER. His wife says he’s his normal self again after getting a new med. Good and sad at the same time.
I remember this particular strip was a big hit when stationed @ Chambley AB France in 1966. Troops checking maps for authenticity. SAR mission to find Snoopie’s plane.

He should have stayed with the girl. It’s hard to find someone who can make a really good potato soup.

Charles Schultz could always make me smile, or even laugh. I don’t know anyone else on this planet that could do that.

I seem to remember Snoopy quaffing rootbeer in a French
cafe in a panel from 1966.“It’s The Great Pumpkin” TV special also had Snoopy scrambling and hiding in France
after being shot down..

Later on, it was Marci, the only Peanut with glasses, who served Snoopy root beer at the cafe.
