So, Cow & Boy has gone into reruns as well. It appears web cartoonists, and cartoonists in general, have a far shorter attention span than they did years ago. HOW long did Annie run? Phantom? Tarzan? And let us not forget the one-man show, Peanuts, by Sparky himself. Fifty years. 7 days a week, plus books and animated television specials and movies. A one-man machine. These days cartoonists get some cash and quit or else give up. Sissies. Sparky made himself a millionaire a few times over. Came up with his stiff on his own. New-age cartoonists are punks by comparison with a few exceptions such as Howard Taylor (Schlock Mercenary). Even the formerly reliable Dave Kellett (Sheldon) is starting to slack off, missing dailies and completely putting his second strip (Drive) on unannounced hiatus to do a “documentary”. Sparky did all his own comics and also the stuff for the Peanuts movies, TV specials, etc, and STILL managed to do his strip 7 days per week until he died.
