It’s not actually important that the water be hot, though it helps: http://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/

I’m just wondering what part of the school this is. Is this the teacher’s lounge? In my school, the teacher’s lounge was OFF LIMITS to the kids.

I recently read the US Forest Service’s study that shows that it’s a good idea for children to play outside in the mud – and even ingest a little bit! – because the microbes in the dirt help build resistance against disease, so I’m not worried. We all ingest germs, but the body usually handles them better than you might think.

And people who are obsessive about germs make hysterical, sweeping generalizations about people without the slightest shred of evidence.

OK, my favorite illogical restroom design issues:

    1) no lid on toilet, so the flush douses you with microscopic germy spray. Could automatic flushers at least give you a moment to exit the stall?

    2) if you dry with a paper towel and then use it to grab the door handle on your way out, why is there no trash can outside to deposit it in? Some people protest this by leaving it on the floor…

If you use air dryer then you don’t have paper towel for the door handle which has just got to have a ton of germs.

Many restaurants do wipe down the condiment holders, but ususally with a damp rag that touches all of them sooooo…..

As the owner of a ‘beater’ car, I resent the sweeping generalizations by previous poster. I can afford to keep the engine, brakes etc. in good shape but no $ for cosmetics, car just gets older and older, at least it gets me to work and back safely….and nobody wants to steal it for a joyride.

Hey, I’m in schools a lot. In cold and flu season, fist bumps are much better idea than high fives…..And, beyond that, you really don’t know where kids hands have been….

Isn’t the handle of a manually-operated faucet about as germy as you can get? IMHO, only people with compromised immune systems need to be so concerned about the daily contact they have with germs.

No a 9 year old out-thinks a bunch the enviro-whackos who have declared that water waste is one of society’s great ills and have used building codes as social engineering tools to force the use of these useless faucets and “low-flush” toilets that require 3 flushes to accomplish what one flush used to accomplish.
