Cathy: I'll shop online!...No. Too overwhelming. I'll shop in catalogs!...No. Too confusing. I'll shop in the newspaper!...No. Online was better. ...No, catalogs were better. ...No, the paper was better. ...No, online. ...No, catalogs. ...No. The paper...The classic holiday dilemma: I can't find a place to park my brain.

Um, Cathy … doesn’t it help to have a working brain to park? Just askin’ …
Busy weekend at work, so I’ll likely be posting in the mornings for a few days.

Traditionally, children receive small gifts of money for Chanukah and only on the first day. Some Jewish families, in an effort to “compete” with Christmas, give their kids gifts on every day of Chanukah, but my family never did. And since I have no children, I never had to decide how to deal with gift-giving on Chanukah. Lucky me!

I just donate stuff for everyone in their name. For example, the family got sleeping bags donated to a homeless shelter in their names. It’s a high of 35 degrees today, and sleeping bags are needed.A friend who gives me rides got things donated to the animal shelter in her name. It’s a system that works regardless of the religious holiday. Toys for Tots is great too, and they’re getting something in someone’s name.
