Charlene should never bring up how much it costs or what discounts she got for it. All of it is tacky! I don’t think Cathy really wanted to know any of it, she was just making those comments to mean that she thought the gift was nice. (Although I think that she could have just said that and said nothing about monetary value). And it has nothing to do with Christmas. I wonder if Cathy drove herself crazy after work last night, running around looking for the perfect, last-minute gift for Charlene . . . or if she just stuck to the “No gifts” agreement the two of them originally made, went home and did nothing more than have dinner then poured herself a nice glass of wine, put her feet up and read a really good book instead [which is what I would have done]?

My husband never knew what to buy me for Christmas or my birthday ,so he would tell me to buy something for myself. I would. When he asked what did " he buy me", I’d show him and say “Oh Darling, you shouldn’t have”. :-)
