Transcript:
Cathy: Why don't you simply write down new addresses when Christmas cards come so you won't have this big heap to deal with every January, Mom? Mom: That isn't my system. Cathy: Your system doesn't work. Mom: No! Hoo, boy! It's a terrible system! Cathy: Why not try a new system? Mom: I don't need a new system. Cathy: You said your system doesn't work. Mom: It doesn't work, but it's the system I've always used. Cathy: But you could change, Mom! Break the cycle! Free yourself from the behavior ruts that wreak havoc on your life!! Dad: Why don't you simply let Mom be Mom? Cathy: That isn't my system. Mom: At least I've always set an attainable example...

Cathy’s mom is sort of (I said sort of!) like my mom in that even though she admits her system isn’t working, she’s not willing to change. Just yesterday, my sister and I got into a discussion with her about her checkbook. I’ve been handing her finances since the stroke and I’m not exactly filling out her checkbook the way she used to. She discovered this yesterday, and was not happy. But I don’t have the time to do it her way, so this is the way it’s going to be… sorry, Mom!Hello Cathy clan!
