Irving: I like you just the way you are! Cathy: What's that supposed to mean?? From the TV: Lose pounds! Lose inches! Erase wrinkles! From the magazines: Shape your abs! Shape your arms! Shape your rear! From the billboards: Change your hair! Change your nose! Change your eyes! Change your teeth! From the person across the table:

First of all, Cathy needs to quit reading insults into pretty much everything Irving says to her — especially when none are intended — and learn how to accept a compliment from him instead. He’s actually being very sweet here . . . she’s just too paranoid to see it. [On the other hand, given how rarely that happens, I guess I can kind of see her point though!]
Second of all, she needs to watch the movie “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” When Mark Darcy tells Bridget that he likes her just the way she is [you know . . . overweight, drinks/smokes/swears too much, etc.] it positively gives me goose bumps! It says a whole lot about someone who can look through the outer, less perfect appearance of another person, see the human being that they really, truly are deep down inside and still like/love them anyhow in spite of all their human foibles. And why? Because none of us are perfect . . . except to that one special person in the whole entire world that we love the most who also feels the same way about us in return!!!!! ♥

Do you think Bill from Midland would date you if you were not pretty? Bob dated only pretty girls on Mackinac Island. You think his steady UM girl would be pretty. I tried to tell you that, but you are your only enemy.
