I’ll echo your “oy”, argythree and raise you an [eye roll]. If Cathy’s parents had no idea (until her mother’s mom-dar went off), I’m guessing that Irving didn’t ask her father for his permission. Yes, I know that tradition is very outdated, but I think it’s a respectful thing to do before marrying someone and becoming part of the family.Hello Cathy friends! I hope you all are staying warm and dry today! More snow on the horizon, I see, and Boston broke one of its records.

I’m with you, BlueOwl. If I ever found out my husband had asked my dad’s “permission” to marry me I’d smack him hard. And I’m not so sure I’d have even married him over 20 years ago, because clearly he would have been demonstrating that he did not know the first thing about me!

My husband did ask my Dad for his permission – and since I wasn’t yet twenty-one, I think that’s allowable.

He had of course asked me first – although to be honest, the first time we went out together we started talking about “when we get married”, so there wasn’t much doubt in our minds even then.

This year will see our forty-seventh wedding anniversary, and the forty-ninth year since we started talking about getting married. Ups? Yes. Downs? Yes – those too. But we’re still together, and still happy to be so.

    :-D

Both of my daughters partners asked for my ‘blessing’ which is not the same as permission in my mind. Unfortunately my older daughter’s marriage only lasted 4 years. My younger daughter’s fiance (the wedding is this September) made me wait 14 months from the time he asked for my blessing until he actually proposed. At the time he did say he wanted to save for the ring before proposing and, having seen the ring, I can understand the 14 months to save the money. Either way I was thrilled to be asked. Thinking back though, I did not ask my Father-in-law-to-be for his blessing – but I was accepted into the family anyway.

Uncanny. I’ll be watching my back anytime Cathy’s mom is around me …

    HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.

If Cathy’s mom thought waiting this long for her daughter to get engaged (at this point, to anyone!) was bad, just wait until she sees how long it takes for these 2 “lovebirds” to finally get married and produce her first grandchild! ;-)

    Hi, rgcviper!

Hello and Happy Sunday, fellow Cathy fans. Hope everyone had a really nice Valentine’s Day yesterday! :-)

Hi GretchensMom! Sorry I seem to have been AWOL. To be honest, it’s because I went PRO a year ago.

I used to go through my comics one at a time, and I could see the comments as I went, and answer if I felt inclined. Now I get them all on one page – and the comments are hidden.

If I want to read them I have to go backwards and forwards from Home to Cathy, back to Home then on to the next comic – and often I just don’t take the time. For which I do apologise!

I must try to make the effort to read Cathy’s comments though – they were much more interesting and fun than some others I won’t mention. My subscription is due in a few days, and I’ll make a note to myself somewhere to visit the Clan more often.

    X
