I’d like to know her “new” name, too.

I know Cathy’s last name is supposed to be Andrews. But was Irving ever even given a name?

The Wikipedia entry for the comic strip calls her Cathy Andrews Hillman, so the assumption there is that she took Irving’s name.

Huh. After years of reading this strip, I never knew the main character’s last name. Shame on me. Somehow, though, “Andrews” just seems to fit her—in an [eye-roll-y] kind of way. (No offense to any real Andrews people out there …)

    HI, MOM. Hello, “Cathy” Clan.

When I got married, I couldn’t wait to take my new husband’s last name! My maiden name was 10 letters/3 syllables long, hard to pronounce (for other people — not me, of course!) and even harder for people to spell correctly. In contrast to that, my married name is only 4 letters/1 syllable long, easy to pronounce and even easier to spell. I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!

As for Cathy, she waited a long time to find the right man and get married. Seems like she’d be proud, happy and excited to take his last name so I wonder what the problem is?

If she took Irving name wouldn’t her name be Cathy Hillman.

Never changed my name for either marriage…now it’s my professional name so no plans to ever change it. Only found out recently that the law that allowed me to keep my own name was enacted only 2 months before my first wedding.
