When my mother got our dishwasher (when I was about 5) she never put pans in it. They were still washed by hand but all of the dishes were put right in the dishwasher. With (at the time) 6 kids there really wasn’t that much room for the pans anyway.
I am not allowed to put the pots and pans in the dishwasher either – not because they won’t get clean (because they do) but the dishwasher might dull their nice shiny look. I don’t want to look at them, I want food cooked in them!
I have never put my pots and pans in the dishwasher and I never will. Dishwashers (esp dishwasher soap) can damage nonstick and aluminum pans, and I wouldn’t trust the detergent to not damage stainless steel. Plus the dishwasher seems to bake in stains. Too many things to worry about when it’s just as easy to wash by hand (with some Barkeepers Friend for the more difficult messes). To each their own, I guess..
.Hello Cathy friends! Happy Tuesday! Happy to have voted today!
We never had a dishwasher growing up and I never had one until it came with my house 5 years ago. I rarely run it. I pretty much wash all dishes by hand and use the dishwasher to hold them. I guess old habit die hard.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Tuesday! I voted too lightenup but I’m not sure I’m happy about it. I am happy to have the choice though…especially after watching Iron Jawed Angels in one of my classes. It’s about the women’s suffrage movement, if you haven’t seen it, you should.
I’m joining the club of “never put pots/pans in the dishwasher”. A) They take up a lot of space, and B) I need to use them sooner than I’ve run the dishwasher. To each his/her own, though.
We don’t usually put them in the dishwasher because we don’t need to run it often enough and we need the pans again before they would get washed. I voted too.

We don’t put our pans in the dishwasher either. No, I don’t trust our cheap little model to clean them.

If they fit I’ll put pans in the dishwasher, but usually I have to wash them by hand.
