Dodged this bullet. His family lives too far away, and my mother always insists on serving turkey (which my husband can’t be near. Add to that the fact that my husband has to work Wednesday night AND Thursday night, it’s just the 4 of us for Thanksgiving dinner.

Usually I cook at home for my kids and their dad but this year we’re invited to my aunt’s (who raised me) along with my cousins and their families. I usually cook a turkey or chicken and ham because the kids’ dad doesn’t like roast turkey or chicken.

We’re lucky too. His Mom lives in Hungary and my family’s in Texas and Ohio. He’s not big into Thanksgiving (being he didn’t grow up in America), so it’s not a big deal here. I get to win having my quiet, introverted day. I ususally do a hike, make something for dinner I like, and use it as a quiet reflection time to count my many blessings.:)

I lucked out best of all…my in-laws are deceased. :) (But frankly, considering the kind of people they were, we didn’t see much of them when they were alive either.) Thanksgiving is not anywhere near as big a deal for us Canadians as it is for Americans. Christmas is our big thing for family time, etc. However, when we do celebrate Thanksgiving (in October)…there must always be turkey.

AACK. Count me in on some of that therapy, too—while reading this strip, at least. Ha.

Many years ago, we used to spend Thanksgiving with my parents, who lived in the same town we did, and Christmas with my in-laws, who lived 500 miles away. Both my in-laws are de- 

ceased now so I get to spend Christmas at home too, but only with my mother since my dad is gone, as well.

Meanwhile, this whole “dating turn” versus “married couple turn” is a load of crock. This is Irving’s mother — not Cathy’s — and therefore, it’s HIS responsibility to pull his big-boy pants up and tell his mother that because they spent last Thanksgiving with her and his dad, they’ll be spending this Thanksgiving with Cathy’s parents per the holiday rotation schedule they ALL agreed on. Period. And if she doesn’t like it? Well, then, she can just not like it but it is what it is so get over it and move on. Period. The end. It may sound harsh but Irving’s mother is a very selfish, stubborn, hard-headed, passive-aggressive person and sometimes the only way to deal with someone like that is to dish it out coldly to them so that maybe, if you’re lucky, they’ll get the message.

I also lucked out. With a husband who is from another country (like quanyindove), he doesn’t care about Thanksgiving very much so we’ve always spent it with my family (except for a couple of times when I cooked). And after we had kids, I made the rule that we don’t travel for Christmas. Simple!

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Sunday! Hopefully you all are having a calm day before the crazy holiday stuff begins!

Both pairs of parents are dead and there are no kids. We have spent some thanksgivings with my only living aunt and this year we were invited to my brother and sister in law.

My family and my boyfriend’s family all live in the same city as us, so we don’t have to do any traveling except crosstown. Usually we eat at my parents in the afternoon and then at his parents house for dinner. Works out. But I am definitely stuffed by the end of the day.
