Ok I guess I’ll start…It can be really annoying when people try to push their diets onto you. I am working on exercising and eating better and people who know can’t help but to offer their advice and tell me what works for them which is fine. It’s not fine when people try to almost bully me into doing what they do. A lady at my internship site always asks what I brought for lunch, last week I didn’t bring anything because I was afraid of being judged.

Hello Cathy friends! Hope everyone’s having a good day and that’s why it’s so quiet here.

I’d comment on the characters overthinking things here, but this is Cathy and Crew we’re talking about. Who’s with me for a big Sunday AACK?

    HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.

Looks like we just missed each other, QuietStorm …

I agree, QuietStorm! I’m not sure I’ve felt pressured, but it was really annoying this January when several of my friends did the Whole 30 challenge (where you 100% give up sugar, dairy, alcohol, grains, legumes or anything artificial for 30 days). I didn’t really have a problem with most who just said they were doing it and moved on with their life without imposing it on the rest of us. My problem was really with one woman who kept talking almost daily about how her life has changed and how we all should do it and how it “reset” her body, etc etc. I eat really healthy, but believe that if I want a piece of cake or a glass of wine, I shouldn’t feel bad about doing it, and I feel self-conscious about eating things in front of her now because I don’t know if she’s going to say anything. Meanwhile, this is the same woman who used to (not sure if she still does) drink every night, feed her kids stuff that I wouldn’t feed my kids, etc, yet I never said anything to her because I don’t think it’s my business what she chooses to do.

Hello Cathy clan! Happy Sunday! Thanks, QuietStorm and quanyindove for the congratulations for Jr! I’m really proud of her accomplishments! And yesterday she was in an Odyssey of the Mind competition (where they solve problems creatively) and her team is now going to state. :-) Quanyindove, the STEM program (it can also be STEAM, to include the Arts) is not only for girls, but as QuietStorm said, usually girls aren’t encouraged to pursue science, technology, engineering or math, so I really like that my daughter can do this without feeling stigmatized. She wants to be an engineer, and when we lived in Spain, there were no other girls who liked the things that she likes so they made fun of her sometimes, which made her feel bad.

“Did I put whole milk in my coffee? Yes, I did. I’m cutting down from the two tablespoons of half and half I used to use before you fat-shamed me. Now take your nonfat yogurt over in the corner and SHUT UP!!!

lightenup Let me add my congratulations to Jr. as well. Always been happy when girls do what they want to do rather than what an antiquated society tries to force them to do. I suspect she will do very well!

In my past life as a college teacher in the computer studies department I was happy to help many female students graduate in the computer science program. Many of them went on to advance to senior positions in their field. (and this was back in the 70’s and 80’s)

Glad to be back here after a week in a theatre. It was our annual variety show to raise funds to give back to high school students continuing their post secondary education in the fine or performing arts. We used to support elementary music programs as well but they just don’t exist in my home town any more. Rather sad really.

lightenup I know it was late but I hope Jr. got to see Katherine Johnson on stage at the Oscars. She is a prime example of what women can do when they put their mind to it.

lightenup…sorry I’ve been on vacation….congrats to Jr…..so glad she is doing so well in her competition. I hope her team wins, but even if they don’t, just going to state level has got to be really exciting for her and she should be really proud!! :)
