Sometimes the pain is worth the looks you get, after squeezing yourself into a better, tighter, figure. Like say….at a High School Reunion. The look on your former female classmates not wearing the torture chamber under clothes, is priceless. Because, YOU LOOK FABULOUS!
It seems that the corset never went out of fashion – just changed from whalebone or steel to elastic fabrics. It is visions like this that make be glad I am male and old and don’t have to impress anyone with my body shape (which as it is won’t impress anyone).
I think that confidence is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. If wearing a body shaper makes someone feel more confident, then go for it. Or if you feel good without one, then that’s fine too. But don’t judge what others choose to do (or not to do). Most likely, I would not wear one 95% of the time, but if I had a special occasion, I would. And I’m in pretty good shape and feel good about how I look. To each their own.

I had a female roommate in the mid ’60’s. We were just 20 years old and working in the city. She was very pretty, innocent, and had great hair. She complained about the guys at work who would pinch her bottom as she’d go by them. (yes, I know…. but this was back then, and no one thought much of it) She bought herself a heavy duty girdle and wore that under her skirts. If they pinched her, no way could she feel it through that saving girdle.
