I have experienced those reservations. Some things I do, or don’t do, with the firm thought that I will have to tell Mom about it. Worse, someone else may tell Mom about it.

One day, Cathy and her therapist will conclude that Cathy’s mother is/was a travel agent for guilt trips…..

My mother was the opposite. Her theory was “if you want it, buy it,” as long as you had the money, but she always paid in cash. She never had a credit card and didn’t have a checking account until she retired. I once left her with my credit card in a foreign shop. They had incredible hand-embroidered tops, and I picked out numerous I would like, just in different color combinations, long/short sleeves and such. I had to be somewhere and it was our last day there, so I told Mom to pick me out one black, one white, and one multicolor, and I left. Mom showed up with a huge bag. She bought them all, all 14. That is not a typo. Fourteen. “You know you wanted them,” was her reasoning.

But Cathy has followed all of her mother’s financial tips, suggestions and advice ….. that’s how she became as fiscally irresponsible as she is because the shopping addict “nut” doesn’t fall far from the shopping addict “tree”!

And we wonder how Cathy became such a nut-job. I like these characters, but sheesh! Whack-a-doodle alert, line one …

    HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.
