That was my mom. Every year she’d complain about how hard it was getting to get gifts for everyone. “I’m only getting gifts for the grandkids.” However, for years, she’d make me the exception because my husband & I didn’t have children. I’d keep telling her that she didn’t HAVE to get us gifts!
I tried for at least a decade to get people to understand that I didn’t celebrate Christmas and to stop sending me presents. They sent me presents anyway, and then I felt obligated to send one in return, until one year I called everybody in November and told them I would not be buying any Christmas presents that year. I haven’t recieved a single Christmas present since. That was when I realized that people only give presents to get presents.
The trouble with gifts is….“I” think it’s perfect for them, but they hate it for some reason! Very frustrating. I would prefer flowers, food and fun! (as in scratch off lottery tickets : )
I have seen this very behaviour in my my wife’s family. No gift rule with more exceptions than family members.I second lightenup on the eye-roll and RobertyPyle for the suggestion for a gift card to a bookstore.
Sunny and cold today with a beautiful orange sunset right now. Woke up with a white lake instead of water this morning. Still a little open water way out in the middle of the bay but the rest is now frozen over – and already a thin layer of snow on the ice. Winter is definitely here no matter what the calendar says. On the plus side, only 3 weeks of it getting darker earlier every day before we start getting more daylight.

Now why would she make a proposal if she immediately had exceptions to it? I propose an eye roll with no exceptions!

… except I just rolled my eyes yet again, so that won’t count.
Wait—too late! Oops.
