Mrs. Hillman: Dad and I will sleep on the sofa tonight so you kids can have your own comfy bed back! Irving: You're not going to sleep on the sofa, mother. Mrs. Hillman: We'll sit on the sofa and try to get a little rest! Irving: You're not going to sit on the sofa all night! Mrs. Hillman: We'll stand beside the sofa and pray we don't wake you with the sound of our bodies crashing to the floor if we happen to doze off!!! Mr. Hillman: Must we go through this drama every night?? Mrs. Hillman: I'm a mom. I can't resist a bedtime story.

I say call her bluff. ‘Dad and I will sleep on the sofa, etc ad infinitum ad nauseum’ “Okay, here’s a sheet and a blanket. Sleep well.”

My grandmother did something like this to me. So after she went to bed, I pulled the sofa bed out of the sofa. The next morning she actually seemed ticked that I had a sofa bed and didn’t tell her last night when she was doing her performance. I said, “I’ve always been taught to be quiet and not interrupt when a play is going on.”

Wow, the drama. I know who we’re dealing with here, but enough is enough. I’d be buying a lumpy bed so fast for them to sleep in.

rgcviper…I wouldn’t even try to get along with these in-laws. And I don’t think “guests” who show up without an invitation (or even a warning) and plan to spend the rest of their lives at my house would not be sleeping in my bed. OUT, I say!!
