A memory (I’m feeling very nostalgic; yesterday was my father’s funeral): My mother was the queen of yard sales, and just about every Saturday morning she would hit a few. She taught us all well about that. One year, when I was in high school, I was asked to audition for the All-State Chorus by one of the judges (he basically said that if I show up for the audition, I’m in; he knew I can’t read music but learned fast enough not to matter). My parents only had 1 car at the time and my father worked Saturday mornings, so I arranged with a friend who was also auditioning. That Saturday morning arrived, and my friend forgot me. I tried to arrange another ride, but no go. I was so upset. My younger brother, who was about 8 at the time, saw how upset I was and ran out of the house. He came home a few moments later. He had gone to a yard sale down the road and found a little ceramic statue of a girl in a purple dress (purple is my favorite color) and gave it to me to cheer me up.

Much of that junk we decide to sell in the front yard was ‘darling’ once. It is nice to think it will be dear to someone else again.

The only “yard sale” in history that will not sell anything.

I’m shocked and surprised that at least one item of that crazy old lady’s made it to the yard sale table. What was NOT surprising, however, was how completely unhinged she became over the very thought of actually selling it!

Sigh. If only yard sales had a rule that people with sentimental attachments to items for sale weren’t allowed near them … Could work in theory, anyway.

    HI, MOM. Happy Friday, Clan.
