Hey all you negative people – it’s Brian’s strip. And who’s to say a home only has one pet or one kind of pet. Doug seems to like the kittens … especially playing music with them.
Brian is writing what happened in his life when he added cats to it, Doug and Sophie are his real family, Doug is almost 6-7 now, and Sophie about the same, the cats have just arrived so he decided to add them to the comic. No matter how often you complain he isn’t going to get rid of family members.
Hey Apikoros:There is nothing wrong with airing your opinion. However, if you don’t like how the strip is progressing, why irritate yourself by continuing to follow it? Makes no sense to me.
I think they’re an interesting addition. I love the interaction between the two of them as if they were aliens trying to understand this strange new world. They do kind of look like aliens. And put me down for who cares about whiskers in comics.
I’ll add my voice to those who like the kitties. As we know, characters evolve as time goes by. I’m enjoying the ride (as the kitties seem to be doing). Now, my cat, who hates going for rides because it means he’s going to either a) the vet, or b) my mom’s house for a prolonged stay, tends to show his displeasure by…soiling…his carrier. Needles to say, we take him by car as rarely as possible.
As I’ve said before, I’m all for keeping the kittens! They’re cute and funny. A lot of comics add new characters over time. Look at Doonesbury….you need a scorecard!!!
More importantly, it is Brian’s strip to do with what he wants. So far, I can find no fault with the directions he takes it.
My cat will calm right down in her carrier if I play classical music on the radio. She loves Mozart and Strauss. She loves long-haired music, and she’s a domestic short-hair!

If you hare doing a census then this non vocal majority member says I like the cats and definitely the lake monster. As in politics the minority usually makes the most noise.Noise: noun: A sound, esp. one that is loud or unpleasant or that causes disturbance.
I like this strip and am along for the ride with other comics too. Seems arrrogant to ask the artist to change what they are doing to suit your feelings. We don’t tell a painter to use other colors, subject matter nor do we tell a novelist to change their style of dialog, narrative etc. Why not skip it for a day or two and come back when you are feeling better.
Annette, people complain vocally far more than they praise. For every person who leaves because they’re annoyed is a person who thinks that the branching out is better than letting the comic go old and stale..Face it, with only 2 main charaters (the others were lost with the move, and the squirrls were not filling in very well either) there’s only so much material.

That’s what we want … more Sophie and Doug.

Don’t like the cats, nor the lake monster. Sophie and Doug are and were funny enough. How or why have you gone so nutty, Brian.

I agree with the rest. Sophie & Doug are the central characters. They’re who I want to see every morning.

ENOUGH with the cats! they aren’t entertaining and they bring nothing to a strip that is supposed to be about a puppy and her boy.

Maybe because I’m a cat owner and can relate, but I’m Team Cat. Their antics make me laugh. I do still love Doug and Sophie as well.
