Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for March 10, 2013
Transcript:
Thank you, Gina, for that marvelous report on the year 1865! Nate will now share HIS report on the year... ...1969! *ahem!* In 1969, Richard Nixon was president, Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, and a box seat at a Red Sox game cost $3.50. Today, that same seat costs $135!! In fact, Fenway Park has the most expensive "non-premium" ticket prices in all of baseball! Why? To pay all the ridiculous PLAYER SALARIES! I mean. why are we spending 13 MILLION BUCKS a season for SHANE VICTORINO? At least we've got a new manager this year! The guy we had LAST season was an absolute CLOWN! There was a game in Texas when he... SIT DOWN! Benched! She's probably a Yankees fan.

Good news: Bobby V got fired. Bad news:too much money for a baseball game(I’m a Rockies guy.)I rarely get to see one, anyways

Can’t argue with any of Nate’s conclusions. And you can substitute pretty much any off-season acquisition in place of Shane Victorino. They all seem to be damaged goods, in their mid-30s.

135$!!Screw baseball games!I can spend that money on some new crocs!

How does he know this stuff!?
Arbiter117 over 11 years ago
Me neither. Most of the time you see no action, and the second something DOES happen, you’re ordering a hot dog or in the washroom.

If Nate’s report was on baseball, he wouldn’t have failed.

infield fly rule is so that the people in the infield do not drop the ball on purpose . I would assume that 99 % of infield flys are caught but if the players misses it or drops it on purpose the runner will have to rund to the next base becasue it will be a hit. So then they can get more players out because they would not run because they were thinking it would be caught

Nate should have included all other sports also

Maybe Nate got the wrong year? But still, you have to give some credit to him, he knows a lot about baseball. That, or he actually researched it.

I can not listen to (read) disparaging remarks about the Flyin’ Hawaiian!

I’d like to see the scoring rubric for the report. Nate was reporting on history that, in fact, would effect everyday life for an American.

I am loving nate’s face in the second to last panel, so funny!!

Nate should have taken his report in a different direction, maybe discussing overall inflation since 1969.
I was going to buy a new car in 1969, but decided not, when the dealer raised the price.I still remember saying: “There is no way I am spending $3000.00 for a car.”

And little wonder: Nate’s train, so strong out of the station, quickly veered off track into the scrub-land way west of Boston!! Snickers! SNICKERS!!
joegeethree over 11 years ago
Well his topic was 1969 and he got off tangent by talking about 2012, so Ms. Godfrey did the right thing.

When I started going to Cubs games, bleacher seats were fifty cents. Grandstand $1.25 and reserved box seats $1.50. Times have changed.

I guess to Nate 1969 feels just as distant as 1865.

This one really hits home. When I was in 3rd grade I made a big bulletin board display, and in one small corner of it I snuck in the Stanley Cup playoff bracket. Turns out the teacher was NOT a hockey fan. I feel your pain, dude.
