Frazz by Jef Mallett for March 02, 2013
Transcript:
Mr. Spaetzle: How does Frazz stay so mellow? Caulfield: It's like that line in "The Big Lebowski": The Dude Bikes. Mr. Spaetzle: You didn't watch the movie, did you? Caulfield: Rated R. It's just something I sort of remember reading. Mr. Spaetzle: Because it goes The Dude abides. Caulfield: Same difference, the way Frazz sees it.

There was a lot to like about The Big Lebowski – the Busby Berkeley sequence was great – but one small detail in particular gave me such a personal thrill; the soundtrack included a song by Yma Sumac from the album Voice of the Xtabay!!! I couldn’t believe it when I heard it! My parents had that album, and I listened to it over and over again. It was mesmerizing, transporting, magical! But, I never knew anybody else who had heard of it. So I was just tickled pink to hear one of the songs in the movie. I’m so happy the album isn’t forgotten!

Absolutely one of the best comedies, ever! Jeff Bridges comedic timing was great along with John Goodman. The scene with Goodman bailing out of the moving car was hilarious!I use, “The Dude abides!” all the time . Nobody knows what I’m talking about but it’s fun to use.

ailurophile17: There are a lot of stage names, noms de plume, etc. She still had an incredible range with no “yodeler’s break” between natural and falsetto. Gimmick, I will accept. Excluding the range, it was unremarkable, but not a hoax.

“Deck us all with Boston Charlie”: I taught this to my daughters when they were 3 or 4 years old; they still like it, 10+ years later. Beauregard Hound had a different version that started with “Bark Us All Bow-wows of Folly”.
