Come again? What does “rest on your laurels” mean? (Side note: I’ve a cousin named Laurel.)

Actually, Rat, his name’s Stephen, not Shirley.

A wreath of laurel was placed on the head of the winner in a war or athletic contest in ancient times. Resting on your laurels means you haven’t been trying to accomplish anything new lately.

That really was a lame one, and I like his pun strips the best.

L & L are two of the ugliest … er.. young ladies I’ve ever seen!

They both seem to have “bed head” today.

I’ve seen people with mats in their hair… but seldom mattresses.

Good one. This being a family strip, of course he’s resting on them in the most non-suggestive position possible. Kind of made me think of Newhart too, for some reason. Hi, I’m Larry, this is my sister Laurel and this is my other sister Laurel.

Shockingly, Rat speaks for many of us! The puns of fun are here really reaching. Pig has lady-friends named Laurel and Laurel, just for today? Will we ever see them again? Or will this play out like the tale of Apollo and Daphne?

If I could laugh at myself like Pastis…my life would be better.

So, each Laurel knows that Pig “rested on” the other one, and neither one “crowned” him for it?:Some Pig!

I still think SP should make an all-pun calendar, featuring some of his greatest hits: “Dunk rye for me,” “Baloos-Wade shoes,” et cetera. The grand finale could be the 2010-11-21 strip.
