Emmyloufan: Have you ever met up with the staff of Filmation who did the animated Emmy Lou segments for Archie’s TV Funnies and Fabulous Funnies in the 1970’s – Lou Schiemer, Hal Sutherland, and Norm Prescott?
I’ve got it figured out now. I commented a few days ago that I thought this used to be a multi-panel strip. I checked with Toonopedia and found out that Emmy Lou evolved into Bobby Sox, which was a multi-panel strip featuring the same characters as Emmy Lou. That’s the one I remember from the 50’s and 60’s.
Her name is Taffy. She is Emmy Lou’s best friend. this is a great example why your comments are important. I’ll make sure that GoComics posts all of the Emmy Lou characters and their names. Thanx!
Hi Davidf42 and Dr Midnight! Yes…Bobby Sox came first(1945-1958) and then when Marty re-syndicated with United Features in 1958 the Emmy Lou name stuck. btw…Charles “Sparky” Schulz helped Marty get into United Features which is Universal Uclick/United Features now.
Hi dheine1971! No… we haven’t checked with the staff at Filmation yet, but good point. She ran with the Archie’s back in the 70’s. I do have some Emmy Lou cartoon film that I’ll figure out how to share with you all. Plus, a live action version with a song by Frankie Valli.
Hi dheine1971! We’ll have twitter next week and a new website. We’ll provide the info when ready. Thanx for asking. Look forward to interacting with you and everyone.
Glad to hear Lou Scheimer is alive and well. HE’s an icon!
Hi G.G. Faircloth…Marty son-in-law here. Yes, these are the Emmy Lou originals. We take the originals and scan them digitally for GoComics. It’s labeled as “new” because we launched Emmy Lou 2 weeks ago. Rest assured we will continue to only post original Emmy Lou cartoons. I loved Marty very much and she and I discussed many times re-releasing Emmy Lou. I’ll make sure that only the originals are available on GoComics. Thanx for asking!
I wish there was a revival of the strip with a new artist for newspapers and gocomics.com – Remember the past comic strip revivals of Pogo (1989-1993), Terry and The Pirates (1995-1997), and Bloom County (under the name Opus 2003-2008) that didn’t last long for a few years? A planned comic strip revival of Lil Abner in the early 1990’s never came to be.

This reminds me of a comic strip from the 1960’s called ‘Ponytail’.

Hi Night-Gaunt49! I’m not sure if the live action show aired. It might’ve been a pilot.
