@Emmyloufan_1 Thanks for filling in Taffy’s name. I just read the toonopedia entry for Emmy Lou/Bobby Sox – how interesting that there were 2 attempts to bring her to TV too. Is her last name Harper in the strip as well?

Emmyloufan: There was no Sunday color Emmy Lou strip, I guess. Although the dailies are currently March 1970 with the Sundays being September 1970 daily strips.

Another question for Emmyloufan: Since Emmy Lou creator Marty Links lived in the San Francisco area (and you might be too), have any of you remember visiting in the late 1970’s the early Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theattre locations in the San Jose, California (suburb of San Francisco) that were on Winchester Blvd., Kooser Road, and Tully Road?

Emmy Lou’s dad probably wishes he had Raymond’s hair.

Hi Original_Baskingshark! Hey…I’m learning a few things from you guys. I completely forgot that her last name is Harper. You’re right! Thanx!

Hi Gendotte! Yes…pretty funny actually Emmy Lou being a “new” cartoon. Coupled with Bobby Sox…Emmy Lou ran in 300 plus newspapers for over 35 yrs. Well, it gets her to the top of the page!!

    Hi dheine1971!

There are over 1500 Emmy Lou Sunday multi-panels in inventory. Gocomics wanted to run the single panels first but because of comments I’m moving forward to start running the multi-panels on Sunday. Don’t hold me to this…but all of the sunday multi-panels are in black and white. My guess is that United Features(syndicate) did the coloring before distribution.

No…even though I live in the Bay Area I didn’t have the opportunity to visit the Chuck E Cheese pizza time theaters. Sad that these great venues go away.

Emmyloufan: Do you think some new artist could revive Emmy Lou for newspapers and gocomics.com with new episodes for the first time in many years?

I was thinking this through, trying to imagine what a “modern-day” Emmy Lou would be like, when I suddenly realized that she might be LuAnn! I was going to suggest that you write up some story lines and find a cartoonist who would like to do this, when it occurred to me that all the characteristics that the new Emmy Lou would display, and the situations in which she would find herself, are already being treated by Gregg Evans in much the same wise, gentle way Marty Links portrayed the original Emmy Lou. Fun to think about.

    Hi dheine1971 and annieb1012!

Marty and I discussed that subject at times. You know Marty was such an innovator. She evolved Emmy Lou with the times. She started out as Bobby Sox but as that period faded out in the 50’s she became just Emmy Lou. She then became the 60’s hip girl and then evolved into the 70’s. BUT…the one constant in Emmy Lou through the years was her morals and values. She was a positive and great role model for young women and kids in general through the years. She had respect for her parents, would stick up for the bullied kid, didn’t swear and in general was the young lady that all parents would want their child to be or associated with. I really feel that kids need to have that kind of role model or support figure these days.

Emmy Lou 2.0! Marty would definitely make sure she had an I-phone!!!!
