Start your own business; you’ll even have more stuff to complain about. Here are just a few: tax on your gross (city license) a tax on your employees (941), federal unemployment tax, state unemployment tax, sales tax, business equipment tax (the gov. rep for this came to make sure I reported everything. He found some pictures on the wall that i didn’t include in my list and made sure i paid the taxes on those. You have to list everything in your office; staplers, books, chairs… ) Then there is the condo maintenance fee. don’t forget the real estate tax on the property. Then there is utilities etc. One year, my secretary made more than I did.
In the six last years of my long working life, (50 years), I found myself having to work retail In old DC just to make ends meet.
At that far point I was just glad to have a job.
The commute was a b—- buster and we never closed even in a major snowstorm or two.
It was an upscale place in an upscale neighborhood.
Customers included Supreme Court Justices, wives of vice presidents, four star generals and Roger Mudd, the famous newsman. Most of the famous were pretty nice. The trophy wives in their furs in the summer made me jealous.
One raise in six years. Owners vacationed in Europe and relatives took the rest. C’est la vie.
I understand the cost of doing business. I owned my own business for 25 years. Everyone had their hand out. Taxes, accountants, and everyone else.
