One of my favorite family legends is about the 1913 Studebaker my great-grandparents bought new. It was the first car in their little central-Florida town. My grandfather and his three brothers and one sister used to take the car apart every Saturday and put it back together, just for fun. No such fun with today’s computerized cards! (Well, not for most of us, anyway…)
Why put a limit on dreams you can have? I dream to be in space some day. Going to happen, probably not, but that is the beauty of dreams, the only limit is the bounds of your imagination. To already have limits to your dreams at his age is rather sad, even if he is more "mature " than his classmates.
@awr “I had a boss a few years back who had 15 bikes, the least expensive was $3K, the most was over $15K. He had done RAGBRAI a dozen times, and owned arn old range rover.”

So, your boss was the Jay Leno of bikes! But with a smaller garage….The best beater car I ever had was an old Land Rover. It was so much fun to drive.
Masterskrain…. LOL!I have a few of those… My house is pretty disorganised (sshhh, don’t tell) …. but somewhere there’s even a beautiful Hotwheels Ratmobile.
Potzrebie…. You mean….um…. the military cure-all….aspirin, phenacetin, and caffeine?
And Sammy…. You’re equating not wanting to pay for appearances with not loving cars.
I LOVE cars…. especially old ones like that 57 Hawk…a masterpiece in its time…or any time.I don’t care much for new designs… or for people who spend money foolishly or selfishly. And I love MY car….It’s 15 years old, but it’s cute and affordable and reliable. Even with 140+ thousand miles on it, it symbolises freedom to me better than something I couldn’t afford to drive or repair!
If I won the lottery I’d buy a bigger van to hold all (okay, much) of my musical gear. (Of course, I would almost certainly acquire more gear.) I’ve never identified with the car I drive; if it’s reliable, has plenty of room, and gets decent mileage, I’m good.

Frazz’s sentiments exactly. His dream vehicle would be a better bike.

My sister renamed my tiny, dented POS car “the TUSH” – ‘Transportation Unit to School and Home’. too bad I could not get a vanity plate for it.

I’m kinda with Caulfield on this one….New cars seems overrated.
If I won a million dollars in the Lotto, I’d probably just be glad I could afford to repair my 98 Saturn wagon if it breaks down.
If I won 5 million I might buy some sort of fuel-efficient minivan or something.
But ah…. if I won 10 million and felt extravagant I’d buy the van for road trips and my dream car for town…

My dream car is a small APC. No worries about paint jobs or dents.

Corgi did when the movie came out. 1:50 scale. They did a smaller version too.

Agree with Briankbath: People should be dreaming more, and then striving to reach their dreams.

This all reminded me of when the Volvo P1800 came out and I wanted one. I didn’t care what color so my hubby bought me a model for my birthday.

Susan, it I won a million dollars in the lottery, the first thing I’d do is wonder how I won the lottery, because I never play it…
