Oh, I don’t know. I had a cat who was absolutely fascinated by the bathtub, especially when the water was running. She’d be scratching at the door within minutes of me running the tap begging to be let in, and she loved batting a the water as it was running. I always feared she’d fall in one day and would start flailing her claws about with me in a very vulnerable and exposed position, but fortunately that never happened.
We had a cat once, my wife was taking a bath, the cat jumped up on the corner ledge, tiptoed across the faucet to the back corner ledge, turned around, and came back, and…slipped in about half way, bottom half, The look on its face was priceless, it immediately pulled itself out, raced out of the bathroom hid under the livingroom sofa and wouldn’t come near us for hours. We were laughing so hard!
We have a cat that tried to walk across the pool on the solar cover…. He is 19 pounds dry and has very long hair….. wish I could have weighed him while wet!!
My daughter had a cat that was a real copycat. When my daughter was soaking in the tub and the water wasn’t very deep, the cat would jump in and soak her feet. I believe she may have been the Korat (a breed that originated in Thailand). (Incidentally, if someone spilled cooked rice on the floor, the cat would painstakingly eat each grain. None of our other cats did this.)
He wasn’t trying to get in the tub, he was just struck with amazement that a person he loves was voluntarily getting wet. I had a cat, once, who did that. He just couldn’t get it.
Youse got it all wrong. Luddy’s curious about that wonderful moist heat that’s spilling out of the tub. It’s winter and except for getting close to open fire, felis domesticus will do anything for an extra jag of jummy jummy heat.
One of my cats from long ago used to jump into the bathtub at random. One day it was full. She got out so fast, she wasn’t even wet. The next morning, she brought her favorite stuffed toy in and dropped it in the full tub.

NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED!, or is it nothing ventured, nothing lost? Either way, you go for it Arlo (& Ludwig)!

The cat wasn’t getting into the tub, just investigating/visiting… and Janis did not appreciate it, and so splashed him to make him go away.
Which is exactly what she did to Arlo mere minutes before.
