Somehow, it reminds me of Johnny Cash’s “One Piece at a Time.”

The car I learned to drive manual shift on was an MGA with 3 bias-plys and 1 bald radial.

And if your dad is a plugger he will tell you that back in his day they would just regroove the tread and put tire paint on the sidewalls.

Better visit the junk yard, a new tire would throw the balance off.

Don’t know if this makes me a plugger, but I remember buying $10-$11 recapped tires. Could usually get 1000 miles for each dollar spent.

I figure only size matters, not the brand.

…implying that pluggers stick to their own kind, except for tires

I never rotate my tires. I let the front or rear wear out and put two new tires on the drive axle. that way I only have to buy two tires at a time and alway have good traction in snow

I thought tires rotated when you drove. :-)

The Firestone is the bald one!!! LOL!!

JK, I don’t know which one it is, but I DO know my old man hated Firestone tires with a passion that burned like the fire of a thousand suns. Bridgestones, too.

Wait until you can see the air in the tire…then replace…

“Recaps” were about five bucks each in the old days in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Circa 1960. They lasted long enough to get through the inspection process that we had at that time.

I cant believe that I risked my life on these pieces of junk. But I did.

Lucky to be here and thankful.

In those long ago days, my tires weren’t bald unless I could see the air in them.

I paid $100 bucks for my 1950 Buick in 1961. My Black Beauty was as big as a trailer. I slept many a night in the giant back seat while playing in a band after the gig. Sometimes I had company, but that was long ago.

Those gals are now grandma’s, I wonder what they think or remember. Thanks ladies. I remember.

    The old Sarge,

Can you even buy recaps any more? All the recap tire places around my area closed years ago.
