It seems that I should be able to invoke Godwin’s law if somebody calls me a “denier?” I.e., they are trying to associate me with Holocaust deniers.

I think Trudeau’s a bit off-the-mark with this series. Partisans tend not to actually make stuff up, as the “myFACTS” company implies, but cherry-pick bits of information that are individually accurate and then assemble them into a montage, from which the reader then infers an inaccurate conclusion. F’rinstance, somebody in the gun lobby plastered the social media with a graph showing number of murders committed with rifles, axes, knives, baseball bats, etc. Numbers were accurate, straight from the FBI. The bar for rifles was the shortest. If you didn’t notice they left out handguns (whose bar would have been about six times longer than the longest bar on the chart), you might have concluded that guns are not commonly used to commit murder. This was actually a pretty clumsy attempt to lie with facts, so I sorta doubt the NRA, which has access to better consultants, came up with it. But this is what lobbyists and PR flacks on all sides of every debate do. It’s much, much safer than inventing stuff that might actually be checked and found false. Indeed, do it right and even outfits like politifact will be forced to label your lie as technically “true.”

I see Doonesbury is dumb enough to buy AlGore’s swindle. And speaking of facts, it’s Gore who has none and PRETENDS he does.

Sorry, climate change is real, but do you believe that us humans caused it? Mt Pinatubo put more pollutants into the air then mankind has done in 200 years. This is natural.

We have cause many local disasters, but on this scale it takes a little more.

‘Climate deniers’ are motivated by fear. Not fact.An entity with an agenda can selectively present ‘facts’ to them, that conform to their ideology AND ease their fears. A one-two punch that wins unwavering support for the agenda.

What the deniers are actually afraid of are sacrifices they might have to make if they were believers….like taking the time to recycle, giving up their hummers, not turning their air conditioning above 65 degrees or leaving the window open while the heat is running, not eating watermelon in January.

‘The lefties have their own dis-information service, too. It’s called Sierra Club.’I’m sure you have a link to a Fox article somewhere that will “prove” this? And let’s not forget the scientist hired by the Koch Brothers to definitively disprove climate change who came to understand that it was true. He’s probably considered a traitor.

Actually we just make up little books of facts (real ones with sources and everything that you can look up) and pass them about. Then we say “where are YOUR citations” and most libs wring their hands and say “but EVERYONE knows it”. We also like quoting the Founders, particularly elements of the Federalist Papers.

Unfortunately not all Republicans READ these books or they’d realize that the only “slightly nutty” element of the Right are the Religious Zealots, which we could do without, or we’d have dumped them and their two thousand year old baggage long ago. We inherited them from the Democratic party . . . Won’t you please take them back? We’ll pay you!

“But we get NO facts about the BENGHAZI COVER-UP!!!”That’s because there are no facts pointing toward a cover up. Substituting “extremist” for “terrorist” on a Sunday talk show isn’t a scandal. Not sending troops in because they would arrive too late to do anything other than possibly get themselves killed is not a cover up. We know Amb. Stevens was concerned about his security in Benghazi, but chose to go because that was his job. We know security was underfunded because Congress cut the budget for diplomatic security. So… what exactly is the cover-up? If you start talking about how the President had the never to try & get a few hours of sleep, please explain what he should have done. Do you think Bush stayed awake every night Americans were killed in Iraq & Afghanistan? What did Reagan do when hundreds of Marines died in Beirut?Another poster child for myFacts.

I’d say Snopes is the liberal version of myFacts, but of course conservatives think Snopes makes everything up because it doesn’t agree with their Karl Rove chain mails.

You can’t deny climate change. The earth and its atmosphere is a dynamic system that is always changing. What is the important is to determine how much our activities may or may not influence the system. That seems to be the real issue that we need to get a handle on. Then, we can decide what, if anything, needs to be done about it.

If you are going to impose controls on our economy that result in significant changes to your citizens’ standard of living, you had better have some solid science behind you. I personally am not convinced that we have those definitive facts established yet.

As usual, the real issues and practical actions seem to be ignored by the extremists on both sides of the argument.
