Am surprised Ellie’s brother even wanted to part with one of his trumpets. This may be just the think Michael needed to feel more important in his own eyes….and, he may be able to develop a future source of income from it when he’s older.
I remember my elder brother played the cornet but I don’t remember him torturing us with his practicing. I do remember that one day in the gym he had an accident that broke one of his front teeth and that messed up his playing for a while til he adapted to it. Later on he got a cap put on the tooth and he had to get used to that.
My parents would go out in the yard to do some work when I practiced the violin. Never did learn how to really read music. I knew where the notes were on the staves and where my fingers had to be on the neck. But didn’t continue after junior high school.
a lot of people her refer to practicing MUSIC as noise. Quite the uneducated, impatient bunch. rather sad. you all prefer the cookie-cutter push-button pro-tools ‘composers’ of today? where EVERYTHING sounds like EVERYTHING else?
Hey . . . if you don’t like our comments, then don’t READ them!!!!! How about THAT?!?
You know what I feel is “rather sad”? That people like you think YOUR opinion on whatever subject is the ONLY one that is right and matters — and if anyone disagrees with you, then that makes them “uneducated” and (I’m sure in your mind) stupid! Well, for your information (in case you missed school that day), it’s grammatically incorrect to start sentences without first capitalizing the first letter of the first word (which I’ve noticed you do quite frequently) but I’ve never seen anyone here call YOU “uneducated” because of it. So . . . if you’re going to throw stones, buddy, make sure you don’t live in a glass house when you do!
Sorry for the rant, fellow “FBoFW” readers. I just get so tired sometimes of being criticized and called names by people who think they know everything there is to know about everything and if I don’t agree with them, then there’s something wrong with ME and I should just sit back and take whatever it is they want to dish out regarding what my “failings” are as far as they’re concerned and stay silent about it. Well, today was the day I had finally had enough. “Uneducated” indeed!!! I don’t apologize to jpirard for my rant, but I DO apologize to the rest of you! Hopefully I will be in a better, more friendly, frame of mind tomorrow. Until then, I hope the rest of your weekend is an enjoyable one!
I saw a very old comic in the British humor magazine Punch that could describe it:1st panel: A little boy is practicing violin while his parents are watching. The mother is imagining her son playing in a concert hall while both the boy and his father are fantasizing about the boy smashing the violin.2nd panel: The boy has finished his lesson. The boy is still imagining himself smashing the violin, but now both his parents are dreaming of him playing before a cheering concert.

Smoking can’t be good for his lungs and it takes a lot of lung power to play the trumpet.

@kiccanada: Michael’s gonna be a writer not a trumpet player when he’s older.

Ellie’s not a flake; she just doesn’t want to listen to her kid making loud annoying noises every day.

My second ex plays the paino. Often, the piano wins.
