Compare Calvin in panel 2 with Hobbes in panel 3. With his jacket on, Calvin is striped in the middle and plain on the sides. Hobbes is plain in the middle and striped on the sides. This isn’t the only way that Calvin and Hobbes are opposites.
Hi LX013 and Dha Dha. I hope you are having a good spring in Austria and Thailand. Sometimes it must be difficult to understand the English for jokes that posters make on this site. In my posting above, the joke is that a “trying person” in English is someone who “tries your patience” or who “gets on your nerves.” In other words, it’s someone who makes it difficult for you to be with them.Dha Dha: In today’s Peanuts strip on GoComics, when Lucy says to Charlie Brown, “So long you ol’ blockhead, it’s been nice knowing you,” she is actually being a little bit affectionate (kind) toward Charlie Brown today. In the past when Lucy called Charlie Brown a blockhead, she was being mean and calling him stupid. But today she has a little smile on her face that she has never shown before when talking to Charlie Brown, because she is actually going to miss him after she and Linus move away.
Can someone tell me where they play sports and don’t keep score? I am a 63 year old grandpa and I have attended sporting events for three generations and everyone keeps score.By the way Calvin is wearing a jacket that partially reveals his striped shirt.
Calvin – just remember that even if you get/win the entire world and all the good stuff in it and lose your soul for eternity the regret will far outweigh whatever you had here….

apparently, Calvin takes “validation from a higher authority” rather seriously. Life is mostly CalvinBall – Calvin.

What’s the point of trying if you can’t be a winner!
Actually quite profound!

The only answer, Calvin, is to give everyone who submitted an entry, a medal to wear around their neck.

These days, there’d never be a contest where a kid was allowed to WIN! Heaven forbid we should hurt everyone else’s self-esteem. We’re all winners.

Failure comes before success. Then again, this is just a comic strip, so that may be void.
