When I saw the strip, I figured the comments might get ugly. Didn’t think I’d have to throw 3 flags, though.Don’t feed the trolls. It doesn’t help. Just flag them. I’d flag the first one twice, if I could.
@The King: Some people might be allergic to aspirin. You should throw them a bottle of Tylenol, too. That way they have a choice. And make sure it’s extra strength.
“Ace” appears at the Pearly Gates:“Hmmm – are you the Ace that was the head of the HMO?”“Yes, that’s me!”“OK, says here you can come on in”“Thank you Sir!”“- But you can stay only 36 hours!”
If a country that was bombed into submission in WWI and WWII, got split in half, was able to come back strong and then absorbed the other half that was basically third world can afford health care, 5 week vacations and retirement at 55, for 90% pay(adjusted for inflation) can do it, why can’t the greatest country in the world?
The powers that be want to be the world’s police, they want all countries to like us, so they give money away to many countries, some that have high living standards. We have a huge military budget, so that we can protect these other countries and can play them against one another like someone playing chess.
Our citizens do not have this because the powers that be can say no, it allows their cronies just another way to rob the US government blind. “We, The People” are not the government anymore, we are bugs to be squashed underfoot.
Maybe, the Fink can just hand out drugs to all the complainers – they can get hooked, and then he can have Rodney and his boys periodically round them up and have them room with the Spook. Make laws against this and he can arrest them to his heart’s content.Next, he is going to declare that pitchforks are “assault weapons”, now he can have a whole other class of people to arrest and put in with the Spook. So soon, anyone who wants to talk about it, get together for rallies, or otherwise want ANY rights will be a criminal(since it is impossible not to break a law) and will sharing vacations with the Spook. The sad part here is that The Fink has a split personality that changes every 4 or 8 years, but the result is the same for anyone who opens his eyes.
High taxes are a moot point when everyone has a higher standard of living – the fact is, they have it better than we do. What happens to those who are not physically able to work until they are retirement age?
The cities are full of them, they sleep outside most of the time, or they work in very low paying part time jobs, and have no medical coverage or access to decent food. A few have enough together to go after SS dis, but many get turned down over and over. some end up dead of exposure in the middle of the city.
Tort reform is pushed by insurance companies and medical establishments so that they can save money. You read about huge payouts – , but these are not the norm. When someone gets a large award, you can bet that the person that did the damage, tried to do something wrong to get around it and got caught. Judges hate that, and are able to asses penalties up to 3x the award. This is very rae, there are many thousands of settlements every day, and a huge judgement comes relatively rarely.
Most people that get any money were wronged way beyond what they get. Sadly, in our society, the only thing resembling justice is hitting them in the pocketbook, where it hurts. Many of these doctors and insurance companies the deny coverage and the like should have their CEOs put in jail. When the costs can be high, some organizations will deny coverage until they have actually caused damage by not doing what the contract specified.
Do not believe the hype that you will be taken care of in case of an accident, it just is not true. Tort reform would be a step backward because each case is different(or enough of them are).
Competition does work, but there has to be some oversight. The problem is that we are a nation of laws, but the few watchdogs we have are without teeth. What good is that? Now they can collect more money and refuse care to those most in need.
