Don’t worry, folks — he was too cheap to buy the bullets.

Similar to the strip where Jeff is sweeping the sidewalk; Mutt makes his usual snide comment; Jeff retorts as he did above…and the reaction from Moe is the same.

To our very brave Veteran, WW2 Marine. A Tribute to a Real Hero…I always loved seeing your comments on Mutt & Jeff and occassionally on Andy Capp where I normally am.But most of all… I loved seeing your Avatar each time you commented… It never failed to make me smile as you yourself were smiling too. You’re in a better place now.. And I know you’re very happy. You will be very sadly missed by your friends at Mutt & Jeff and Tarzan… Especially your sea buddy ‘Old Navy Quartermain’ as you always used to call him.Thank you for your service. It was a real honour to be able to talk to you. If only a few times… I am very proud to be one of the few commenters you last replied to before you left us.You’ll always be in my thoughts and my heart too.R.I.P (1925-2013)

Had a brief telephone conversation with his wife -he and I both attended Indiana Technical College and worked on the school newspaper – but at different times. He enrolled after WWII and I later enrolled, and went through the military later. Had a number of e-mails to/from him.He survived a major operation a few months back.
