Good old Gramps for a reality check. Yup, you don’t have to go to school 30 hours a week. When you are an adult, you can work 60 hours a week, especially if you have no education. Or, better yet, work TWO jobs.

My son (Nate’s age) asked me “Why do I have to go to school?” I answered “so you can get a good job and work every day for the rest of your life until you’re too old to enjoy life.” He didn’t really like that answer.

Me: 10 I wanna be older to watch scary movies, eat junk food, get new fancy toys every day, and go to bed at 2!

Me now: Working 6-9 hour shifts / double shifts 4-5 days a week as a struggling med student with a deteriorating heart condition and chronic insomnia, I eat whatever junk I can get my hand onto just to get through the day where I have but few lossy hours to do whatever I want after a long day’s work before bed at 1:30 if I’m lucky to even get 6 hours.

But no, my ten-year-old self is happy! I got all the crap I wanted and it’s killing me. Literally!
