Dad: I don't understand... why do comics these days want to be "real"? These artists want to make "social commentary"... they want to "reflect reality"... they want to be "important" and "relevant". Does anybody really care?! I mean, these are funny little stick figures with balloons, for goodness' sake! I don't read the funnies for reality... I read comics for humor, to escape reality, for complete fantasy! Did you just feel something? Baldo: No. But there's bird poop on your shoulder.

The problem has only gotten worse, to the point that several strips have collapsed under the weight of their own drama or the drama the writers were airing in public.
Even comic books have become engulfed in it, to the point that people are abandoning the major US publishers for indie houses and foreign titles.
2007 was… simpler times…
