Even if he didn’t go, who will be looking out for Walt when Gertie is gone? Maybe Rover could take some time from his “busy schedule” and drive Walt. There will be somebody. I don’t think it will be a reaper.
Notice how all of a sudden the new story focus has stimulated many more responses than did the two month plus with Joel and Rufus, like a shot in the arm. Good going Jim.
I am afraid we may be seeing the passing of Walt here. The comment about waking up seems to be setting the stage for a dream sequence passing. I would imagine a reunion with Phyllis is in store when he gets to the Old Comics Home. I am already tearing up about it.
“The Gumps” was HUGE in the 1920s and ‘30s, so Walt would definitely remember the strip (it was also in the Chicago Tribune, like GA). I’ve had a “death of Walt” story sketched out for several years. The thought of having him just head off to the Old Comics Home and stay there is certainly a possibility, but it kind of raises the question of how to handle that transition in the strip.

I rember the lLottle King.
I’m surpised Walt doesn’t recall the Gumps.
(Maybe it’s because they were before his time.

I remember the Little King, but the Yellow Kid and the Gumps were way before my time.

Panel two: “Wake up, Walt! Gertie is callin’ you!”.
Walt is dreaming, and I think about to pass to the other side, where he will find happiness in the Old Comics Home.
Well done, good and faithful servant. You have earned your everlasting reward.

Is Walt going to look like he did in the 1920’s or 1930’s when he gets to the Old Comics Home?

Has he mentioned Maggie and Jiggs? Terry and the Pirates? Steve Canyon?

@SUSAN NEWMANI’m betting it will be Joel & Rufus who give Walt a ride to the Home. Not a good thing.

Now there’s a thought…Jim could take on Paul1963 to do the story lines. He’s done some good alternative ones in the past.
As for Walt’s transport, yes, Rover or other grandchildren could drive. Isn’t Chipper retired?
