Man, in seventh grade, I had to change in one gym and exercise at the gym at the other end of the hall (the length of the building). It made me late for the next class several times, and that teacher was not so understanding.
Stephen Gilberg: I had better luck in a similar situation in college. I had band practice at one end of the campus and cartography lab at the one, a quarter mile away up hill. I had no trouble arranging to be late, as I could have taught the class and the professor knew it. I came in late, counted a few contour lines, filled out the answers, and was first to leave. It sure helps to have an understanding teacher.
When I was in HS (70-74) only one year of PE was required; and if you were in the band, especially the marching band, you could defer your year of PE all the way to your senior year. Guess they figured you were getting some activity marching and playing an instrument. And in my case I was hauling a sousaphone for my marching band penance.
I’m a semi-recent college grad, and we never had any showers in gym through high school. No one seemed to mind, either.
In college, the gym had showers, although I was almost always the only one using them. Seems like a shame, but that’s how it was. I’d never work out without showering in the gym locker room, though.
K M: At least you had a sousaphone. I have known those who played a tuba and marched without a sling. Your fatigue rate was about the same as my trombone, which was lighter but not supported. My left arm (holding) was alway more sore than my right (movement), after a long march or concert.

Three strides and he has had it? Not in good shape. He should be able to make it across, at least, 3 panels.

Shouldn’t have to worry about being tardy if you rush…

Since I work an hour from home, I’m often late for my community choir’s warmup. So I warm myself up in the car.

In the 60s we had gym class every day, with showers, 7th thru senior year. Horrible that this is not standard anymore.
