But it HAS gotten that bad. The idiocy of today’s public schools is now beyond parody. (My school-teacher GF tells me her school forbids the “How do you eat an elephant” joke because it is violent!)
It takes a village to raise an idiot. Yes, there are some un- or underqualified teachers out there, but blame for the state of our schools has to be shared by the school administrators, politicians, the parents, etc., etc. It’ll get far worse before it gets better. …if it ever gets better.
Well there was the Pop-Tart incident and the Hello Kitty Bubble Gun incident. Deadly devices for sure. If they don’t want kids to know about guns, they need to get them off TV, out of books and newspaper etc. Or stop being so ridiculous!
Really? Just where did you dig up that piece of inanity? Do you honestly think that school districts go out of their way to find the least qualified applicants among college graduates? I’d like to see you present even one piece of factual evidence to show that teachers are drawn from the bottom quartile of college graduates. I dare you.
And yes, I do have a degree in education. I’m a certified teacher and I graduated in the top quarter of my class. So, there goes the idea that teachers are stupid. Are there some bad teachers? Yes, just as there are bad doctors and plumbers or anything else you care to mention. But most are intelligent, caring professionals that are truly concerned with the futures of their students. They can’t be in it for the money. Not the teachers anyway.
I still laugh at the teacher who came to my classroom to tell me one of my kids was wearing a sword on his shirt. The kid was a Tennessee Titans fan and he was wearing a jersey. I was then scolded by the principal for allowing violence in the classroom. That was 1995.
Yeah, it has. A man in Ontario Canada was arrested because his daughter drew a picture of “daddy shooting the monsters in the closet”. He didn’t even own a gun, but somehow he’s a child abuser. .http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/canada/archives/2012/02/20120224-095016.html

All bets are off when it comes to administrators.

The schools/media/public is getting really stupid with zero tolerance and false panic situations. I’m so glad I don’t have children to put thru this.
