The kids probably would think board games are too old-fashioned so Sergio made them think they were going to do chores so that they’d be glad to play! Wise Papi!

I still have my father’s board game collection, plus a bunch I added. Few of them are commercial games (chess, shogi, which are too much trouble to make), mostly folk and hand made. Chinese checkers is a Swedish game called halma, originally played from the corners of a square board. Othello is Chinese, fan mein, introduced into Europe by way of the Italian reversi. Pente is Japanese go ban, with those dumb curved sides added. Etc. Lasted two generations, but now only electronic ones are played by the third generation. Such a loss. But I still have the games.
