    Mom’s response is just right; not too panicky, nor too low-keyed. Can’t have the lad chewing his arm off in the van and messing up its interior, can we? His hair is too short for teeth-flossing, Alice.

    Even in the second panel, it seems to be a big larger than it often is. Would be a great minivan for Alice in Wonderland.

    neatslob explained it yesterday — they’re riding in the family minivan (usually driven by Madeline.) The Honda-Tonka Cuisinart is Dad’s personal vehicle. See the entry for Cul de Sac in Wikipedia.
