Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for April 27, 2013
Transcript:
FRANCIS: How goes the search for romance? NATE: Pretty good. I've received three responses to my notes. Mary called me an imbecile, Kate called me an idiot and Carrie called me a moron. I did some research, and I found out that a moron is smarter than an imbecile, and an imbecile is smarter than an idiot. So: Carrie it is! FRANCIS: She'll be so excited.

Well anyway, meanwhile back at the strip: Oh yes, one must be careful in selecting the company one keeps! Such an eclectic group!! Chuckles! CHUCKLES!!

Sometimes Nate really anger/dissapoints me . He doesn’t even like girls! He just likes the idea of them. Instead of picking one girl he likes , he puts a note in everyone locker and expects for some random girl to just ring on his doorbell!

“Imbecile”, “Idiot” and “Moron” were indeed once legitimate measures of mental development (or lack thereof). Once kids started hurling these terms around as insults other terms came into use to define the unlucky folks so afflicted. But the new terms tend to suffer the same fate. Calling someone “special” isn’t always a compliment…..

Heh. I thought it was tiered this way, from best to worst. Idiot → Moron → Imbecile.
