    As explained to me by my Home Ec teacher in 7th grade (cough many many years ago cough), the cooking recipe is the AAA direct road map, but the driver should more often choose the scenic route when needed (change of spices and herbs, different proteins and cheeses): sometimes the road will be bumpy and full of potholes, but sometimes you find that perfectly paved route, and when you do, dagnabbit, WRITE THE ROUTE (ingredients) DOWN FOR YOUR GRANDKIDS!!!!

    some skills are obsolete in our society. putting a shoe on a horse. replacing a typewriter ribbon. using a mimeograph machine. operating a fax machine. rowing. sailing. using a tea kettle. making a call on a rotary phone. recording a video using a camcorder and vhs tape. recording a song on reel to reel. using a clutch on a car.

    Calvin should skip on over to Adam@Home and learn to ride a unicycle, and add that to his resume.

    And to people with horses who aren’t in the horseracing industry. Lots of people have horses and they do need shoeing.

    A 19 year old witness in a trial had to testify that she could not read a page of evidence because it was written in cursuve (which she could not write, either)! This is what is happening in our schools! Applicable?

    Making tea in a pot is obsolete? Writing for the pleasure of it? Those will never go out of style for those who like it.

    +++++

    Skills that apparently are unlearnable: Replacing an empty toilet roll, turning off a light when you leave an empty room, cleaning up when you make a mess in the kitchen.

    Shoeing horses became a necessity when people developed dirt and paved roads. Uneven grasslands and earth would wear down the hoof naturally, So I have been taught.
