Yes, they should. They are children, not little gods to be worshiped. There’s nothing wrong with learning to clean up your own mess. My mother always said, “If I clean it up, half that stuff is going in the trash.” And she meant it.
I have no children, but came from a large family. Moms are not slaves.
Are you kidding me? 6-year olds are absolutely capable of picking up their toys. At that point they are in school and even getting some homework. They can work. Learning to help around the house by age 6 is not only appropriate, it’s beneficial to the child.
I live in Toronto. There was heavy rain that backed up the storm sewers and left many low areas flooded. It was as much rain as there was for hurricane Hazel that hit Toronto in 1954. I spent 3 hours trying to find a road to drive home that wasn’t closed. There were extensive power blackouts and the subways were stopped. One regional train got caught in a river overflow and the passengers had to be rescued by boats. Luckily no one was injured, just inconvenienced. There are lots of flooded basements. Now it’s two days later and there are still some areas without power and one place without subway operation. Otherwise, you wouldn’t know anything happened. It’s the 100 year storm that now comes every 4 or 5 years.

Really? By six years old they should be doing a lot more than just cleaning their rooms.

Various people have different interpretations of clean. Also note that there are differences between clean and straightened.

Moms shouldn’t have to clean. That’s what maids are for.

That’s the problem with forums like this- sarcasm doesn’t translate well. It’s hard to communicate inflections in writing.
