Heard a comedian once describing the heating system in a 1960’s VW MicroBus while driving in an typical upstate NY dead of winter (zero degrees F with 18 inches of snow on the way outside): Go into a refrigerated meat locker and strip yourself completely. Wait ten minutes, then set your right foot on fire.
My 1966 beetle was the last model of 6-volts. The windshield wipers were 2-speed only because they were much slower when the headlights were on.Still, I loved that car for 21 years.
My van currently needs to have the driver side window fixed as it came off the track last summer. I only have the passenger side window that works electrically. All the rest are manuals and it’s a pain to open them.
I remember when my driver’s side window went down and the crank didn’t work. It rained and I improvised with a trash bag duct taped to the window frame. (until I got somebody to fix it.) No credit cards back then. You couldn’t pay, you did without.
