Before Schroeder walked back to the plate — before he was even done talking — that’s when Charlie Brown should have fast-ball beaned the kid! (Rude, little punk! No one threatens my Chuck.)
Beanballs are still thrown, but it’s more like “accidentally on purpose.” It happened last night. Somebody threw a “bad” pitch and it hit the batter’s arm, forcing him to be removed from the game. Luckily, it turned out to be only a bruise. His team won the game anyway. He’ll be back again tonight, I assume. Charlie Brown was right to not throw one.
I got your message yesterday… :-) Hope you’re having a great weekend! I may not always comment about the comic, but I always look for your comments when I read the comics.xxx
I’m don’t follow every ball game, but I don’t here of guys charging the mound very often. In baseball, as in any sport, tempers flare occasionally, but a player who charges the mound will get ejected, and probably suspended, so I wouldn’t call that a role model. Also, a deliberate (or apparently deliberate) pitch close to a batter’s head is cause for ejection.

Of course, if you REALLY beaned him, he wouldn’t be able to get up, much less pound you… ah, Catch 22.

Wonder how he feels about a croquet-ball?

Fortunately, beanballs are illegal anyway.

.without intent or forethought, bean balls are legal. That’s the way a stupid law works.

Well, the batter seems to know how to throw Charlie Brown off his game.

I have always wondered…what IS a “beanball”? I don’t like baseball so I don’t know much beyond four bases and “home run”.

a beanball is where you hit the batter on purpose

To be “beaned” with anything is to be struck in the head. The head was called the “bean” in 19th century slang.

“The head was called the “bean” in 19th century slang.”As in, “I bopped her off the bean with a rotten tangerine.”

The batter was probably Peppermint Patty before she got to know “Chuck.” Schroeder wouldn’t be the only person to mistake her for a guy.

The pitcher is not usually ejected unless the plate umpire has reason to believe it was intentional.

Smart thinking, Charlie Brown.
