Sometimes you have to decide that being smart and healthy is just not in the cards at that moment.

Wow, the comments are “fun” today. Boo on the political and name-calling trolls! Bye, David. It’s just a joke about unhealthy food, jeez! Coincidently, I just read about the 105-year-old woman who eats bacon every day, and attributes it to her long life. Personally, I think it’s more the fact that she is very active, but hey if you want your bacon, go for it!

The best thing to do about food is to remember first and foremost: we have no actual nutritionists, what we have is food lobbies.

The grain lobby is the biggest; we are supposed to eat lots of grain. I personally eat no more corn, over 80% of the crop being GMO, but so far wheat is good. Whole form is better.

The produce lobby is beginning to catch up with the grain lobby, so now we are taxed with eating .. what is it? Twelve portions of vegetables and fruit a day? Really?

The meat/eggs/dairy lobbies are the smallest, so they catch all the flack. The food processors can get inferior fats and oils much more cheaply than they can get lard and suet, so they tell us not to eat animal fat. The medical industries make no distinction between real science and voodoo science, so for the best part of fifty years we have been told that eating any kind of natural fat is bad for us. And of course, the animal rights lobby is working hard to drive the price of animal protein out of reach for most of us.

In reality, we need fat in our diets, and animal fats are very high quality, from a food value standpoint. We should eat food as close to the source as we can, and tell them to take their over refined pseudo food and put it where the sun don’t shine. It’s getting harder every day to do it, but as the foodies say, shop around the edge of the grocery stores, and leave the middle aisles alone.

Absolute best is to grow what you can, though that is becoming more difficult too.

    But … its a goal.

Eating ‘unhealthy’ foods once in a while isn’t going to clog your arteries or give you a heart attack. Moderation in all things. Eat healthy, but have an occasional triple baconator cheeseburger and fries!
