That makes total sense,as the public would be the beneficiary of their education. Unfortunately,that wouldn’t work here,because college is an elective level of education. As it is not required by law to go,one doesn’t have to go. Also,some would resent paying for someone else’s college education,especially if they dropped out.
Government sponsored education has one major drawback. The politicians determine what education is important and who gets that education. That lends itself to another government program that would not be responsive to the needs of the people or the country but to favor whatever special interest group that supports the politicians and bureaucrats.
