A “Mysta” cloned from DNA taken off of the car would be around six years old. Ghote has said that he did the “grunt work.” Is this the way he would speak about achieving rapid regeneration of a Lunarian? This seems unlikely. I wouldn’t count on the veracity of anything Sail or Ghote tell Diet Smith.
Just trying to figure out where all the lying is going.
We know Smith was interested in having a “clone” of himself, the reason Smith is still interested in Ghote. Smith was the only one who had faith in Ghote in 1979, even as Ghote demonstrated that he was a crook even back then (Mumbles Clone).
Clearly, Ghote wants a second shot at the mark he missed in 1979. And it looks like he’s using the same recipe he used in 1979 – a person who never really died, passed off as a clone.
Can’t imagine DNA from the vehicle being of any use – for the same reason others think Mysta must be dead – too much damage from the blast.
And that “six years” thing popped up again in the comments (Pequod77).
From Christmas, we have reason to believe that, other than Mysta, there are no “Lunarians” from which to get any spare parts, let alone DNA. And I don’t think they can make a human have electrical horns or hands. Horns, yes; electric horns, no!
A Mysta who was thrown from the vehical (a la Rhodent’s victim, 1959) would seem to be the only way to get a “new” Moon Maid – but that would not be a “new” Moon Maid.
Which also begs the question, if Mysta is “real,” how did Sail or Ghote get her cooperation? (Amnesia, psychological dependency?)
Still, this morning makes one thing clear: How can you tell when this pair of docs are lying? Their lips are moving!
Seeing Zy Ghote with his book on the fake Mumbles cloning, I have to think this is a giant scam. Yet somehow I still think Mysta is the original. I don’t know how all of that fits together yet, but that’s my sense of things right now.
Day-Day2001: I fully agree. Both Sail and Ghote are quacks – but Mysta seems genuine. Another problem is, if this Mysta is a fake, or a clone, which is about the same thing as a fake, there is no storyline after she’s found out – unless Mike and Joe are grooming her for a new – and new breed of – Tracy villain!
But I think that would just not sit well with fans…
Mysta was sitting behind the wheel of Tracy’s car(and presumably belted in) when she turned the ignition key, which triggered the bomb. She wasn’t thrown from the car (Junior had to be restrained from trying to get her out), which was engulfed in flames after the explosion. Getting viable DNA from anything on the car would be a pretty neat trick.
And then we have the issue of the autopsy, which would be mandatory in any homicide. Even if she somehow survived the explosion and subsequent fire, an autopsy is simply not survivable—vital organs, including the heart, lungs and brain, are completely removed during the procedure.
I was thinking of having some fun today. Anyone up for a game of "What does the “S” in S. Tim Sail stand for"?I am sort of torn. I think it is either Sue (Me and you and a boy named Sue) or Salty (Salty Sail). (grin)
Dr. Sail looks like Bruno from DWTS!Dr. Old Goat sure holds his phone in a funny way.Diet Smith looks a lot like John Jonah Jameson these days.Does anyone STILL that the Divine Miss M is real?
OK, time to go back to sleep. LT, wake me up when some real action takes place.
The new MM sure looks closer in age to Honeymoon than someone her own age. That’s all we need; two Honeymoon sightings! I guess that beats puffin’ on the bong!
It’s late enough in the day, so I don’t know whether anyone is still reading this blog. Nevertheless:
coldsooner: That’s right. Divorcing ourselves from the science fiction and/or fantasy aspects of the story for a moment, this is the one detail in this storyline that I find disturbing.
When Fletcher/Collins murdered the original Mysta, it was done “so completely,” as the Munchkins from Oz might say – with hopes that she would never be brought back. And fans that were concerned with the excesses of the Space Era were happy with that decision.
From the looks of the comments since last August, there was another fan base that was not so happy with her demise. And there appears to be no middle ground here – Moon Maid, love her or hate her! (or, at least what she represented)
Now, Mike and Joe have decided to bring her back.
This brings the usual retroactive continuity (retcon) issues, and then some.
For one, Moon Maid was quoted as saying that their people could live as long as 1,000 years. How long, then, does it take for one of them to grow up?
(Pequod77: This question alone may “fix” that six year problem with Honeymoon – but would make further unlikely that this Mysta is a “clone”)
The main question: Is Mysta real or fake? If Mysta is real, then there’s the issues regarding Junior and Sparkle.
For me, the biggest problem with this story (again, ignoring any of the science fiction or fantasy attached to it) is this: If Mysta is a clone or any other kind of fake (and I maintain that a clone is still a fake), then this Mysta cannot be part of the strip, at least in any capacity that she had once been in the past.
Exhuming Mysta’s grave is becoming more viable with each new strip in this storyline….I think that’s the only anyone knows if this is a clone or the real deal.
It has long been decided upon this very board that Team Tracy doesn’t put anything in the strip that doesn’t mean anything. Reading through the comments, I’ve realized that we’ve all forgotten that Tracy (yes, it is his strip) was questioning those that could fly a Space Coupe. What if the old Ghote & Sail found someone who could do that, take them to the moon, and get a specimen to conduct Moon Maid experiments on? What if on that trip, it lead to the demise of the Moon people civilization there?
I have to applaud Team Tracy’s use of continuity throughout their short time here. We’ve been re-introduced to such a wide array of characters, and I have missed that for so long (I don’t know if comic book veteran Joe Staton had anything to do with that; even this week, I perused an old issue of Hulk that he inked), but I am really enjoying this storyline. So far, this is their magnum opus.

So the current Mysta is a clone after all, and not the original Moon Maid. Or there’s some other shenanigans going on.
