“But seriously, you think she would have given up driving, considering…”BAM!Yesterday I ate a whole box of Sparkle Zap. I don’t think I’ll be sleeping for a week.
Anyone getting the idea that “they” think shes a clone but Moon Maid may have a few surprises for them? As I see it the possibilities run about like this:
1. Shes not a clone but somehow the real thing. (Hard to believe the Tracy’s would be that bad of eye witnesses.)
2. She’s a mental case plastic surgery fake that knows so much about Mysta (fan girl?) that she’s “remembering” Mysta’s past. (So how’d they make the horns?)
3. She really is a clone but Moon DNA is .. different. And somehow transmits memories along with basic life code.
Retik raises some interesting, but merely diversionary, questions. Clone-Moon Maid has done it, and that’s what matters. The question is, will her genetic programming hold up, or will she degenerate mentally and physically?
Jim Douglas: How to reconstruct these strips as a “comic book”:
On Windows 7, it’s easy: Just use the “Snipping Tool” to save the daily strips, then use Paint or any other photo editor to paste the strips back together.
It’s what I am doing!
Windows XP or Vista, you may have to use the old Print Screen button – and a lot of “cropping” in Paint – quite possibly the same for Windows 8.
Unfortunately, due to the many many changes in Windows 8, I’m not at all sure how to do many of the basic things we’re used to in older versions of Windows.
Short comments today – weekends are my busiest days of the week:
Mysta knows how to drive? Apparently, Retik and Stellaluna were told that Mysta was a clone; therefore, they expected everything she “knows” to have been “implanted” memories (as certain other readers have been commenting). At this point, we have to throw that idea out!
As to how Mysta got the keys, (one), how does Retik know that there are only one set of keys? And, of course, (two), we know that Mysta has “powers,” perhaps a more “romantic” solution.
Again, if Retik and Stellaluna were lied to (about Mysta being a clone), then they, too, might not really believe in her “powers,” either…
I think today’s strip is to begin to eliminate other possibilities, such as “cloning.” (After all, a “clone” Mysta would be pretty much “useless” to the strip after this rather lengthy “teaser” session – going back to, what was it, August 2012?)
Nevertheless, I think Mysta has done something that really betrays our trust in her – what has come to be known as the “Sparkle Zap.” How this will be resolved is, as yet, very unclear.
The only thing today’s strip really clarifies is that our “good doctors” are even bigger dirtbags than we have already been led to believe!
At least two possibilites for “how Mysta learns to drive”…1) she’s the real thing and remembers how to drive because she learned it before her “death”, 2) she’s a “fake” who believes she’s Mysta, and her driving skills are from her original brain (along with English and other basic non-personal experiences), 3) she’s a much faster learner than Retik suspects and learned to drive…well enough…from watching Retik.
Wasn’t one of the things we were reminded of earlier if that Honeymoon had magnetic fingers, and in her first appearance was able to attract car keys? Shouldn’t her mother have the same ability on a larger scale?
As for the driving, if Tracyville really is Chicago, nobody knows how to drive. She would be no different that anyone else her first time behind the wheel. (Been there….)
Well, first of all, driving is not that hard. Mysta (clone or not) has been in a car and seen Retik drive on several occasions. Anyone can memorize the sequence: Put key in ignition, put car in drive, press gas pedal, steer car.
Occasionally we get news stories about some 10-year-old who decided to go for a joy ride and has no trouble. Usually the problem is the inability for short legs to reach the pedals.
My daughter-in-law never learned to drive. However after my grandson was born, she thought she should learn. She instinctively was able to steer. It took only a short time to learn to gradually accellerate and gradually brake rather than jamming down the pedals. This was all accomplished in an afternoon in a vacant parking lot. Her biggest problem was her fear of driving among other cars on the road and fear that she wouldn’t be able to react fast enough if she got cut off or some other crisis because of her inexperience.
We saw Mysta driving a car. We did not see how well she drove it. The real question is: How did she know Junior’s address and more importantly, how did she know how to get there?
As for the keys: Mysta (whether real or a clone with the same abilities) has the ability to freeze people in their tracks and when the awaken, they have no knowledge that they have been frozen. She has used that ability to help Tracy on numerous occasions. She could easily have done this and taken Retik’s keys. However, with her electrical and magnetic abilities, it is not unreasonable to believe she could start the car using her powers to activate the starter solenoid either electrically or magnetically. When the key is turned on a car, the solenoid receives an electrical charge from the battery activating a magnet. Sounds right up MM’s alley.
well, her being able to drive probably has significance, if that fact was chosen to be inserted into the story……I’m still guessing the only “invention” the doctors came up with is implanting stun gun-like horns into a regular human being……if it was a clone, then there’s waaaay too many “memories” implanted….and what would be the purpose of implanting memories anyways? We know that can be done…..cloning humans is the big achievement. DNA tests between the “new” and blown up Moon Maid would prove or disprove the cloning theory anyways. And her being the REAL Moon Maid brought back to life….after being blown to bits like that….c’mon, we’re way past impossible here.
Of course, there’s also the possibility it could actually be the real MM, and these factors have simply been conveniently overlooked for the sake of the story, I guess, lol…..
How did she learn to drive. Since she was sealed in a room with no books, tv, or computer she should know nothing. Come on, watch tv for a day and you can learn, computer, and you can play a driving game. My son had 50 hours of flight training before he put hand one on the yoke.
I appreciate a good story build-up, and I am NOT trying to rush things, but I surely hope we get to see Dick Tracy in action in his own strip sometime soon. In fact, when is the last time we have seen him at all – questioning Notta, I think.
Of course, Gould had 12 panels to work with on Sundays in the old days, and was therefore able to go back and forth between two scenes.
Maybe Tracy is on the scene where Sparkle was zapped, and we will get to see him gathering evidence or some clue there. Hope so.

“How did she learn to drive?” Makes no sense if she’s just a clone, right?

Evidently either Mysta can start a car without keys or Retik’s wrong and there is more than one set of keys.

I’m on vacation visiting friends in Texas. Even if Mysta didn’t know how to drive nobody down here would notice.
