thatababy: so this record holds one song, and you spin it on this dish. then you put that stick on it to dig out the music. wow. it's crazy-more complicated than pressing "" on a touch screen. yet, somehow much more satisfying. song: little willy, willy won't go home!

Re yesterday’s comments. You didn’t need one of these for every record – they were removable. At least, my pink ones were (are).

My son, the computer high tech almost 21 year old that he is, enjoys vinyl. He actually requested a record player (turntable) for his 17th birthday. I told him that was something his aunt or I would have asked for at the same age.

The sound is better on vinyl than it is on a CD. There are still those who prefer vinyl to CDs because of that. In fact, vinyl records are making a comeback. CDs are convenient for listening to music while in the car or if someone doesn’t have an MP3 player, or whatever, with downloaded songs.

Actually, technically speaking record turntables are far simpler than a CD player. after you press play, a LOT of things happen before the sound gets pumped out of the speakers (which is, in itself, a fascinating scientific invention)
