Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for May 23, 2013
Transcript:
Arlo: This graduation invitation looks more like a Christmas card! Janis: A lot of them are that way these days - a photo, personalized design... Arlo: No engraving? No parchment wrap? No DOUBLE envelopes?! Janis: I wasn't aware you're such a champion of etiquette! Arlo: You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone!

Don’t it always seem to go. That you don’t know what you’ve got. Till it’s gone.
Thanks to Joni!

There used to be good parking lots. We called them drive in theaters.

funny how based on what we see now in the strip they have any friends or relations at all so who is sending them invites? the strip used to show Arlo, Janis and Gene interacting with co workers, neighbors, schoolmates and friends from time to time. now it’s just A&J and the cat commenting on current events. maybe it’s JJ’s critique of society that was examined in the book Bowling Alone.

You don’t what you’ve got til it’s gone – pave paradise, and put up a parking lot (lyrics from a song, but I don’t know the title).

Due to the common use of tickets by schools to restrict the number of people actually attending the graduation festivities, I guess a modern invitation would be one to celebrate the fact that little Johnny is a step closer to being out on his own.
